On August 1, 2008, Hospice of Southern Kentucky opened the Hospice Center; one of only three residential hospice facilities in Kentucky. The Hospice Center is located behind Hospice of Southern Kentucky’s administrative offices at 5872 Scottsville Road in Bowling Green.  In the beautiful ten-suite center, where some of the rooms look out onto a field where horses graze, dying patients and their families are now finding comfort.  Medical personnel help keep patients free from pain, while social workers and chaplains address the spiritual and emotional needs of patients and their families. Patient suites furnished with sofa beds and recliners for families who want to room with loved ones; a family room with a fireplace; a chapel; a playroom for children; shower facilities for family members; and much more are provided in the Hospice Center to help families feel as at home as possible during a time when they can’t care for their loved one at home.

To find out more about the Hospice Center, where private tours are available, call Hospice Center  Director of Clinical Services Yolanda Terry, R.N., C.H.P.N., at (270) 746-9300.

Patients may fit into one of the following levels of care in the Hospice Center:

  • General Inpatient - For patients who are having trouble getting comfortable. The doctor will see these patients daily and decide when they are stable enough to change from this level of care. If a patient is eligible for Medicare or Medicaid, or is covered by a private insurance policy, this is a covered service.
  • Respite - For patients whose caregivers need a break from care-giving or need to attend to business that prevents them from care-giving for a period of time. Respite patients can stay up to five days. If a patient is eligible for Medicare or Medicaid, or is covered by a private insurance policy, this is a covered service.
  • Residential - For patients who have controlled symptoms but have no caregiver able to provide the care needed at home. This care can also be provided in a nursing home. Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurance do not pay for room and board at this level. The room and board charge is the responsibility of the patient or the patient’s family.
